Peugeot E-3008 review

We tested the pure electric version of the next-generation Peugeot 3008, known as the Peugeot E-3008.

Originally launched in 2007 as a utilitarian MPV, the Peugeot 3008 underwent a dramatic transformation in 2016, emerging as a stylish and distinctive mid-sized SUV. It was awarded the 2017 European Car of the Year, initially offering petrol and diesel engines, later expanding to include mild hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

Now, in its 2024 third generation, the Peugeot 3008 continues to evolve towards greener solutions, introducing the first model to feature Stellantis’ new STLA Medium electric powertrain. The lineup will eventually include mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions.

The Peugeot E-3008, marketed as an “electric fastback SUV,” boasts a sporty, sloping roofline, akin to the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron. The entry-level model we tested features a 73kWh Single Motor configuration, priced starting at £45,850.

Externally, the new 3008 sports a bold front end with slim LED headlamps integrated into a frameless grille, enhancing its aerodynamic SUV-coupe profile. Inside, it showcases Peugeot’s new “Panoramic i-Cockpit” highlighted by a curved 21-inch HD screen combining a head-up display with the central touchscreen.

The driving experience reveals improved ergonomics compared to previous models, though the unique i-Cockpit design may still pose challenges for taller drivers. The infotainment system and instrument cluster represent significant upgrades, albeit not class-leading, with intuitive touch keys and a responsive “OK Peugeot” voice assistant.

Interior quality impresses with its design and materials, although some basic plastics are noticeable in lower areas. Space is generous throughout the cabin, including ample headroom despite the coupe-like profile, and a substantial 588-liter boot capacity (expandable to 1,663 liters with seats folded).

Performance-wise, the front-mounted electric motor delivers 213bhp, enabling a respectable 0-62mph acceleration in 8.8 seconds and a top speed of 105mph. Charging capabilities are robust, supporting speeds up to 160kW for a 20-80% charge in just 20 minutes via compatible connections.

On the road, the E-3008 offers agile handling in urban settings with light steering and good visibility, though it leans towards comfort rather than sportiness. Suspension copes well with typical road imperfections, although larger potholes can unsettle the ride.

Overall, with an efficiency of approximately 3.5 miles per kWh, translating to an estimated real-world range of 270 miles, the Peugeot E-3008 presents a compelling option in the competitive electric SUV market. Its refined design, ample features, and promising future variants make it a strong contender for those seeking a stylish and environmentally friendly family SUV.
